The stories of creative people, organizations, businesses, and communities throughout Wisconsin paint an impressive picture of creativity and entrepreneurship. And, over the past twenty years, the creative sector worldwide has seen an explosion of data framing the industry as an economic, workforce, and civic powerhouse. As advocates, we connect this factual data with personal and community stories, to present a compelling narrative of opportunity.
We’re thrilled at the most recent data about the Arts and Cultural Production Satellite Account, out this week from the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis and the National Endowment for the Arts. ACPSA measures the impact of 35 creative industries, from nonprofit organizations to architecture, shows that the arts & cultural sector hit an all-time high in 2022 value-added to U.S. economy. The arts and culture sector represents a full 4.31% of the nation’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
Nationally, the economic impact is $1.1 trillion; in Wisconsin, the impact is over $11.9 billion and 89,000+ jobs, up from $10.8 billion in 2021 and 87,000+ jobs in 2021.
More information about the Arts and Cultural Production Satellite Account and Wisconsin’s creative sector impact can be found here. Customized GDP information for each state’s arts and culture sector is also available.
These impressive numbers show that Wisconsin’s creative industries packs a powerful punch for the state and all of its communities, worthy of investment and strategic growth. We’ll be using them for advocacy all year long. Keep checking our Legislative Action Center for info and actions in this critical political and election year.
