Strategic Planning

During the past year, the Board of Directors of WDAC have been involved in a strategic planning process focused on identifying the challenges that Wisconsin downtowns are facing today and identifying how WDAC can best support Wisconsin downtowns as they address these challenges.

We started our strategic planning process in June 2005 under the facilitation guidance of Bill Rizzo, Community Resource Development Educator for UW Extension. To date, our process has involved several important steps:

  1. WDAC Member Survey

  2. WDAC Stakeholder Survey

  3. Analysis of WDAC’s internal and external Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges (SWOC)

  4. Creation of a mission statement based on our findings that clearly states who we are, who we serve, our purpose as an organization, and how we will achieve our mission.

  5. Identification of Strategic Organizational Issues that will serve as the foundation for developing an action plan to guide WDAC’s work in 2006 and into the future.

  6. Strategic Planning Process Executive Summary

Primary Strategic Issues for WDAC

  • What does WDAC need to do to distinguish itself, around its new Mission, across Wisconsin?

  • How should WDAC invest its resources so that members and non-members, despite having different needs and access to resources, receive support?

What does WDAC need to do to more fully cooperate/collaborate with organizations that have similar missions?

At this point in our strategic planning process, it is critical that we get feedback from our members and others who want WDAC to succeed.
